split skirt pistons?

What are split skirt pistons?  I just started reading an online copy of
Vizard's book "Tuning Standard Triumphs".  It's the first time I've seen the
term.  Every place I found it on the net seemed to think their readers would
understand it and didn't bother to define the term either.
