Trailer works just fine when the tow vehicle bulb burns out. My truck
has the three taillight system, blows bulbs regularly, and it doesn't
screw up my trailer. Heck, even with both truck brake lights out the
trailer light worked just fine.

I just got a trailer hitch (ordered) for my Spitfire. Spitfires use
the
now typical three taillight system (separate brake, turn and running)
and
the trailer uses the typical American two lamp system (turn and brake
combined, separate running). I can get a simple electronic converter
or
adaptor that will combine the signals into a two lamp system, but I
was
just curious about one aspect of its operation. If one of the
vehicles
lamps were burned out will the trailer lamps still operate? The
converter
would conceivably be getting a signal, just no load from the lamp does
it
need this load to actually operate? Anybody have any experience here or
is
familiar with the operation of these converters? Without tearing it
apart
I am not sure how these converters works -
