In the U.S. there actually is a law (or at least and FCC ruling) that
limits how much louder the TV commercial can be compared to the program.
Sort of works. Certainly seems to me that commercials in recent years
have tried to offer more audio appeal and rely on visual messages to
combat zapping (muting during the commercials). A lot of are car
commercials have an all-music/no voice-over format just showing the car
& people having much more fun than one would expect from driving a minivan.
Maybe if this catches on we'll get a 'blind' button on the remote so we
can hear the commercial but not feel compelled to look.
