Andy,
I will chime in as a member of CSI. It IS generally assumed in most Judging
Circles that all TR4's were originally equipped with gray carpet. This seems
to be a reasonable assumption since The Spare Parts Catalog only lists one
number for carpet and it has been documented in many original cars.
Not so with TR3B's. Although there is evidence that some were fitted with
gray carpet the evidence is not strong enough to say that all were that way.
I have been showing my TR3B for 10 years with blue carpet (a very nice TRF
reproduction I might add) without any deduction. Of course I will probably
get nailed for it now that I have opened my mouth! Come to think of it there
might have been this faded, dirty almost gray stuff under the shag black
carpet I pulled up when I restored it in 92.
Cheers,
Darrell
