and a loaded gun is an "accident" waiting to happen.

John,

I would assume you are referring to an improperly stored loaded gun? No
thinking individual advocates leaving a loaded weapon laying about on a counter
top.
But you must realize, surely, that when used for the intended legal purpose a
gun is a tool used many times to save someone from being made a victim of
crime, to supply game, or even to supply enjoyment- such as plinking or target
practice?
Truly accidental shooting are rare.

"At this time almost half of all homes in the United States contain guns -
close to 250 million guns, these homes contain about 58 million children age 14
and under"
"According to the National Safety Council report from 1998, there were only 30
accidental firearms-related deaths of children under the age of four, and 80
accidental deaths involving firearms for children age 5 to 14. There is no way
for these numbers to support the anti-gun groups claims that "15 children a
day" (or the current number being quoted on the nightly news) are "killed by
guns." "
Per current NSC stats...they are on the web.

Many numbers are skewed because the statistical collators add "children" ages
18-25!!

There are gun safes to safely store firearms, even a type of steel case that
allows you to keep a loaded weapon close at hand while precluding a child's
access.
Any accidental death is a tragedy, but using your brain in storage of your
tools (of all kinds) will make the home far more safe.

We return to your regular programming.
