Wow Dave, I didn't realize that it was choked down that much. My
father's Plus 8, was supposedly pushing close to 200 hp with FI, and
picked up a few more with the Offy head and 4 barrel.

That must be one small exhaust manifold.

>Which makes more HP, torque, fun? A TR8 with fuel injections, with ZS
carbs,
or a Holley 4 barrel with the Offy manifold? And how much HP? Mileage
for
each setup? Maybe that's too obvious but I'd still like to hear
opinions,
experiences.

Bud, few Triumphs take to tweeking like the TR8. This is because the
performance of the TR8 is so compromised in the effort to meet the
emissions requirements. In stock form the fuel injected and the
carburetted versions are essentially equivalent. Dropping on a four
barrel
carb is said to improve horsepower but I don't know by how much. Most
likely because those who swap carbs do otherthings as well.

Ted S. has said that the TR8 is one of the few (or the only) Triumph
that
really benefits from fitting up headers and if you look at the TR8
exhaust
manifold you'll see why. I suspect that if you swap out the carb and
the
exhaust manifold you will realize approximately 175 HP (as opposed to
137
stock).

Since the Rover engine has benefited from 20 years of further
development
you can swap out the engine for a more recent version with larger
displacement and higher compression ration and with induction and
extraction improvements you can reace 300+ HP and still have a road
worthy
car.

But even a bone stock TR8 is a heck of a lot of fun.

Dave
