IRS half-shaft sealing washer

Has anyone found a good replacement for the cork (according to the parts
manual, I couldn't tell you what the material was from the remains I found)
sealing washers in the half-shaft slip-joints?  I'm thinking that a suitable
sized O-ring may work (or at least be better than nothing).
