In 1978 I towed my TR2 from California to Minnesota. I was young, dumb,
and full of something. I had a 67 Ford Pickup with a V8 to do the towing,
slept in rest stops, stayed on I-80 all the way to Iowa. Had to drive about
50 mph all the way. All my worldly possessions fit in one pickup load.
The point is it can be done with a proper gear, but sure ain't fun.

Subject: CA to PA Trailering

Since there appears to be a whole lot more experience (and expertise?) on
this list than I have, I am posing the following:

I am considering attending the VTR, et al, events in PA next summer. I have
a 54 TR2, and am unwilling to drive it from CA to PA (the thought of sitting
beside the road in eastern Nevada, with no other LBC's in sight is not
appealing!). I have a 2001 Honda CRV, with a hitch rated at 2,000 lbs. (If
it is important, it has a 1 1/4" receiver) The towing rating on the CRV is
1,000 lbs (not sure why anyone would put a 2,000 lb hitch on a 1,000 rated
vehicle, but it was the only one available). I understand the TR2 weighs in
at about 2,100 lbs, with full tanks, tools, etc. (probably less than 2,000
lbs with an empty petrol tank). I am not a fast driver. There are huge
mountains between CA and PA, the worst being the Sierras.

My questions:
1. Should I attempt it?
2. Are the PA events worth attending without my TR2?
3. Is anyone else from CA considering going to the PA events?
4. How are you getting there?
5. Would you consider caravaning? In an LBC? With a trailer?

Thanks in advance for all responses - either before or after you pick
yourselves off the floor from laughing!
