Also, for some reason tapered pipe plugs respond to a slight clockwise
direction to break the bond, then counter clockwise to remove the plug.
If you use Teflon thread sealer, the instal torque will be much less than a
dry plug. Pipe plugs won't "bottom out" like a regular bolt when tightening
so it is possible to keep turning until the plug comes out the other side or
the casting breaks.
I think the spec for a 1/2 pipe plug ( about 3/4 thread diameter) is one turn
after finger tight.
