Would anyone like to share their experiences of race preparation and things to
watch out for when using TRs in competition?
I'm running a '62 TR4 in a couple of British race series and am interested to
know what problems you've all come across when pushing these tough cars to the
limit
Specific areas I want to look at are:
Brakes:
* what master cylinders to use when converting to dual-circuit brakes?
* any caveats?
* presence of absence of pressure-limiting valve at the rear of the car?
* benefits of finned rear drums?
* how to reduce pad knock-off?
Front suspension:
* ways to change camber setting at front?
* amount to cut wishbones to achieve above?
* recommended camber and castor settings?
Gearing:
* what ratios are available?
* how to get overdrive to split ratios rather than duplicate them (3 over=4)?
* recommended LSD?
* benefits of the Stag gearbox?
Hubs, studs & nuts:
* why do cars lose wheels?
* what parts should be "lifed" and replaced regularly?
Engine building:
* caveats when tuning & modifying engines
* best "band per buck" mods
* best ways to increase engine life
* how to stop engines breathing lots of oil vapour
* recommended cams, cam timing, valves, ignition timing & etc
Obviously US pump gas is different to ours and this will affect engine tuning
I plan to modify the car to FIA standards which limits what I can do to it, so
big discs & calipers & etc are verboten
Thanks for any thoughts you may have...
