Dave,
That is why I am asking. I had a small tear in my front carb diaphragm.
It
would idle, but would stall/bogg down under load. I had to drive about 4
miles home in fits and starts.

Scott, the symptoms sound characteristic of fuel starvation. When idling
the fuel pump can keep up with the fuel demands but under way the fuel in
the float bowl gets depleted and then the engine stops working properly.
Check for a restriction in the fuel lines, either a clogged filter, debris
in the line, or a bad valve in the pump.

One part of the sympoms is that it runs fine from a stop for a few seconds.
A torn diaphram would behave poorly all the time.
Ask me how I know.
Dave
