During the 70's and 80's, here in New Zealand, when petrol was in short
supply and/or expensive, many cars were converted to run on CNG or LPG - no
lead in either of those... and many of the conversions were performed on
Triumphs.
A friend of mine, a mechanic who is often seen working on Triumphs, recalls
completely rebuilding an engine in a 2500TC that ran fron day one on LPG.
Nothing special was done (ie. no hardened seats) and that car is still
running very strongly many years (and at least 300,000 kilometers of
vigorous driving) later with no further work having been done - other than
regular oil changes. His view is that hardened seats in a properly assembled
Triumph engine are a complete waste of time and money.
