I was told that the "new car" smell of a new machine is now a perfume
sprayed on during/after assembly. The original smell was from leather, oil
etc. The new cars don't leak and don't have the old rubber components, so
not the same smell. People expect the new machine to have a particular
odour, so the manufacturers spray it on.

Subject: Scent of a TR
<PRE>Just got home from crawling around on five TR3's in various stages
of
disrepair while looking for parts. When I was done, ,I happened to
smell my
hands, and the Scent of a TR took me back to when I was about six and
the
neighbor would let me sit in his ,, (for hours). I guess it's a
fuel/oil/leather/moisture smell that occurs under the tonneau in the
sun.
They should make air un-fresheners for our TR's like that.
