Hi all:
I've mentioned this before, so apologies to our 'historical listers, but our
colleague in AUS asked.
I have used a mix of 50% ATF and 50% 8-90-100 since my restoration in
3/2000.
True the atf will 'weep' from the bottom drain, but I must tell you this
recommendation came from the Jensen-Healey folks that race their J-h's with
the stock Lotus 907 DOHC engine and mated to the Getrag close ratio 5 speed.
My TR4 has over 154,000 miles on the original tranny- never rebuilt
(replaced a shaft that broke in 1970) but not since then. I used to havethe
2nd-1st syncro 'nip' and the 1st to Reverse 'chipping' in the winter.NOT ANY
MORE!
The tranny has never run smoother. The Tranny has done well in the 100^
temps this summer and last winter she was smoother than ever in 30^
temps-even when cold.
Just sharing my experience.
