All:
My daughter (Kristin - a member of this list) received her one-owner '59
TR3A yesterday, TS 36526 L. Yes, a little old man in Florida had it, and he
purchased it new. It had been sitting in a lean-to for about 25 years, but
it is remarkably intact (and remarkably rusted). The front wing wells are
gone to rot, the floors are gone, and the firewall is swiss cheese.
However, the body panels are in very sound condition, and I think that I
might be able to save all except the boot lid (that is too close to call)
and the tire storage lid. The dash is great, and the gauges look
sensational. The windscreen is pristine, as are the supports. Curiously,
the trans tunnel and drive shaft tunnel are sound. Can't figure that one,
unless they were protected by petrolum product residue. The gas tank looks
shot, but the motor (at least from the outside) seems re-buildable. The
grill is perfect, as are the grill and the headlamps and rims. The chrome
(huh?) hood sticks are in great shape.
We are going to dismantle this vehicle, bolt-by-bolt, and restore it
together this winter. We are definitely going to need some parts, and if
any of you have extras in your stock that you would be willing to sell, we
are willing buyers.
Although we haven't even jacked the car up to look underneath (I'm
terrified), there are some obvious things that are missing or too bad to
use:
1. Seat pans - both sides (rust)
2. Coil seat spring assemblies - both sides (one rusted, one is either
missing or has merged with rusted seat pan)
3. Gas tank (rust)
4. Front bumper with overriders and rear overriders (rust)
5. Passenger grab bar (rust)
6. Shifter rod (rust), cap, spring, gate (chances of removing these intact
are lower than whale....)
7. Parking brake lever (went to rust)
8. Windscreen wiper motor (I'm guessing it is bad.)
I know that there will be many more items needed, so if you have something
not on this list and want to part with it at a reasonable price, please let
us know.
Thanks all,
D.
PS: If anyone wants a set of five, bias-ply ww tires (worn), let us know.
If you want the wheels too, we'll sweep them up from the garage floor and
put them in a bag for you:-) BTW: I have a set of 4 hubs (seem pretty
good) for non-wire wheels (from my TR3 - it got new Dayton's) that I would
be willing to trade or to sell cheap.
