Hi Randall:

What you do is bend the cable through 90-180 degrees in open air so that as
the engine moves relative to the body it simply moves the cable and housing
around without transferring any unwanted movement to the throttle linkage.

The problem is that when the throttle is almost closed, the engine moves
enough that the movement of your foot cannot keep uniform tension on the
pedal without closing the throttle that causes the car to slow down, which
causes your body to lurch forward which causes your foot to hit the throttle
which causes your body to lurch back in the seat which causes the throttle
to close..... The famous TR leapfrogging movement. A cable connection
between pedal and linkage would probably mimimise the startup of this
effect.

Mark, not to reopen any old debates, but try using something a bit thinner
than what you have now in your dashpots. I know, that seems backwards, but
IMO it will induce a very small amount of 'lean bog' which will appear to
smooth out the throttle response without actually feeling like a bog.

I don't follow you here. Are you suggesting that the cable stretches ? Or
that the engine moves enough relative to the body to affect the linkage ?
