Darrell, I noticed something interesting last night, the original TR4A front
springs (which took a spacer) were superceded by the factory to the ones
used by the TR5/250, which did not take the spacer. TRF lists only the
TR5/250(/6) springs. Mind, I'm just guessing here, but I wouldn't be
surprised if the later springs did increase the ride height a bit, since
they had to handle the heavier (?) 6-cyl lump positioned further forward
than the 4-cyl was. ISTR the frame was also beefed up a bit, adding more
weight to the front.

The workshop manual has enough spring data to calculate the ratio between
spring movement and wheel movement, plus information on spring free length
vs compressed length. Using those, you should be able to calculate just how
much to remove from the spring. However, I would suggest finding a spring
shop to do the actual work, as they will have the equipment to cut a flat
surface, and know how to avoid removing the temper from the spring (which
would effectively ruin it). There's a spring shop in Long Beach, CA, on
Spring St naturally <g>
