The preferred solution to this problem here in Australia (where there aren't
very many early Audis) is to fit a primer pump between the petrol tank and
the original pump, which has the effect of keeping the petrol under pressure
stopping any vapourisation. Not sure of the type of pump you should use, or
its source, but I could find out if someone is interested.
