I was unaware of any problems with the earlier TR series throwout bearings.
I thought the problems were with the later ones used on diaphagm clutches.
The earlier TRs used a big old three finger clutch and a different throw out
bearing.
For what it is worth . . . these "upgrades" arent' always all they are cracked
up to be. While scrambling to put in a transmission for the VTR in Colorado, I
coughed up the $$$ for TRF's uprated throwout bearing (toyota) pre-installed on
a sleeve (for the TR6 and other diaphram clutch cars . . can't remember if the
4A was or not)
Once installed I found that the bearing "scrapes" as it lightly touches the
clutch fingers. (foot off the pedal)
It was fine under load: Press the clutch pedal and hold it down all day . .no
problems.
I ended up putting a TR4 style adjustable length slave cylinder rod and a
return spring to actively pull the throw out bearing away from the clutch (just
a little bit)
There is still a small, brief "scrape" each time I push the clutch pedal . .
but a year and 15,000 miles later .. I'm used to it now.
By the way . . . TRF's response was that this uprated thowout bearing on a
sleeve was only meant to be used with their "magic clutch kit" (I didn't buy
the clutch from them)
To which my response was "well then why do you sell it separately, and why is
isn't it listed in the catalog that way?"
Okay . . that's much more than $.02 from me.
I'll get off the soapbox now

Subject: TR3A Throwout bearing
My question is for anyone one with real life experience as to where I should
get a good quality bearing or if that is suspect, how do I convert a
LandRover bearing to the task.
