"Why anyone who's gone to all the trouble and expense of a lengthy
restoration would turn around and sell the car at a substantial loss."

That's the one that never makes sense to me.

Precisely.

Among the (many) things I've never understood are:

1) Why Triumph people are proudest of how little they paid to restore
their
cars, while Healey folks seem proudest of how MUCH they spent.

2) Why Triumph people are offended when they see a nice car advertised
for
big $$, while Healey people are more likely to say "Great! The value of
my
car just went up."

3) Why anyone who's gone to all the trouble and expense of a lengthy
restoration would turn around and sell the car at a substantial loss.
Where
do all these cars come from that are advertised as "$XXXXX.XX invested,
only
200 miles since complete restoration"?

I know TR folks are more likely to be home-restorers while Healeyites
are
more likely to turn their car over to a restoration shop, but there's no
reason why a properly done home restoration shouldn't be worth a price
that
represents all the labor that's gone into them.
