Jack,

If you're replacing the whole choke cable assembly then try this.  Once you
have the cables loose from the carbs tape a piece of nylon cord about 4 ft.
long to the longest cable.  Then once you pull the whole assembly  through
the firewall you have the nylon cord to tape the new choke cables to and to
use as a guide/come along to get it over the heater core hoses and back
through the firewall.  May sure you tape the cables together at the
appropriate places so that they can't hang-up on something.
