Given the difference in cost, and the relative ease of getting to the thing,
I would certainly try putting in a seal kit. Note that the seal to the rod
is only a dirt and dust seal, the fluid seal is inside, between the piston
and the bore. Both seals come in the kit and it's fairly easy to install.
However, if you find the bore badly pitted or scratched, or the new seals
start leaking soon, then you need either a new cylinder, or to get your
existing one resleeved.
