Hello folks, it's me again and I like to share with you all the ongoing saga
with my TR6 differential, I finally managed to remove my old diff. out of the
car, what a job that is when the bolts are pretty well rusted, however what I
need to share with the list is the conversation I had with the mechanic at a
local Foreign Car shop, ( I've known this guy since 1980) when I gave this
guy the oil seals I had ordered from one of the big 3 I asked the mechanic how
he was going to remove the flanges in order to put the oil seal's in, I was
told that he is planning on using a hammer and hammer them out, I reminded him
that the flanges also have the flange key and was told that he had done many
of these differentials and that was the way to do them.
After having said that, I must confess that what he told me is in direct
contrast of what most of the good folks on this list have spoken off, I feel
that hammering the flanges is a good way to bend the flanges and although he
(the mechanic has a perfectly good 20 ton press sitting in his shop he is
planning on the hammer method), should I run for the hills and look for
another shop, any consensus? also does anyone in the Virginia Beach, Virginia
area know of any good Triumph shops.
as always thanks to everyone, this list has been invaluable
Bernie
