After all the work I have done on my TR6 for three years, that DPO
is still throwing me curves. Last weekend I drove 200 miles from
Clinton, SC to Cade's Cove in the Great Smoky Mountain National
Park for a little camping and a hike. The drive was great except
that the engine was running a bit hot, up to the 3/4 line on the
temp gauge. I found that the fan belt was a little loose resulting
in slippage of the water pulley. However, even after tightening
it slipped due to the fact that THE BELT WAS ONLY 3/8" WIDE INSTEAD
OF THE 1/2" CALLED FOR! The belt had gotten glazed too. So, for the
first time I pulled out the spare belt I had ordered right after
buying the car and, after about 4 hours and a lot of cursing, I got
the belt on and everything back together again. How can changing a
fan belt involve so much grief?

I decided to lube the water pump at that point. Haynes says to
remove the hex plug and replace it with a grease fitting. Mine
has no plug; just a hole which is not exactly where the drawing shows.
And it doesn't look as though there are threads in the hole either.
So, how do you lube this pump? Can you just squirt something down
this hole?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Tim
