Hi Jim,
I'll guess 500 lbs, with mud wings, without bonnet, doors, windscreen,
petrol tank, interior, and boot lid. I'd guess 6 couch potatoes, 3 2x8s for
lifting, and a plywood platform to set it down on.
Go to your local hardware store and buy some steel angle iron. They
ususally sell it in 4' lengths with holes punched for various uses. Use these
to bolt across the tops of the door openings. You are correct, it is vital to
support this area or the body will fold.
Do you have a Summer, 2000 copy of The Vintage Triumph (#75)?
There's an article in there that may help you.
Go for it.

Folks,
I'm trying to talk myself out of a frame-off, but in case I lose the
argument, anyone have a SWAG of how much a bare tub for a TR-4 weighs?
Any
suggestions for how to remove it in one piece w/o doing more damage than
good? I figure I need to brace the door openings - probably a 2x4 bolted
to the top door hinge on each side should work. Anything else? How many
middle-aged couch potatoes will it take?
