First, I wanted to thank all who have responded to my questions, both on and
off list. Your info has been invaluable.
Second, I've got a problem with my engine. If you will recall, this car has
been sitting for about 12 years in a garage. It's on jack stands, and all
of the hydraulics have been removed, as I am in the process of redoing
brakes, lines, etc. The fuel tank, radiator and heater core have been
removed and cleaned. I have been putting Mystery Oil in the cylinders, about
1-2 oz in each for the last 4 weeks. The old oil is still golden and up to
the full line on the dipstick; the coolant was still bright yellowish/green
and about 1/2 full; there is no obvious rust on any exterior portion of the
engine; looking thru the oil filler, the rocker arms are bright and shinny;
I have not attempted to pressurize the oil system; there are no obvious oil
leaks; the fan belt has been removed; it is out of gear; the clutch slave
cylinder has been removed; the water pump pulley and the generator pulley
spin freely; the plugs have been removed; however (isn't there always a
"however"), when I attmpeted to turn the engine with the hand crank, it
wouldn't budge. Not even a little bit.
Before I "bite the bullet" and remove the head and oil pan, is there
something that I am missing? Could something else be binding the engine?
It ran just fine when I parked it 12 years ago - no oil or coolant useage
that I recall - just the brake problem.
Thanks for your help and suggestions. David Gunn
