Ray,
I rebuilt a fuel pump with the primer.The rebuild & install is a simple
matter (with help from the list and the manuals). The primer is definately an
aid in starting after the car has sat, even overnight. Without the primer
only a fair bit of cranking and choke got it fired up. With the primer,
hardly any crank is needed. I'd suggest to get a pump with primer somewhere,
rebuild it (I used the kit from TRF). It'll make cold starts easier, and will
save your starter undo wear.

PS Sorry I couldn't help with the water pump, by the time I got to reading
about your troubles you already had all the answers. In my water pump the
woodruff key was wearing out the shaft making the pulley wooble. Anyway ....
