Padding out the bill is more the mark. Semi synthetic oil is highly
desirable, in certain engines. A TR engine does not warrant it.( neither
does a Renault 5 ) The engine for the TR was designed to use monograde oil
which was generally available at the time in the late 40s. You will manage
quite well with multigrades which came to the forefront in the 60s for
instance 20/50 GTX or similar. The tolerances used in manufacture are just
not close enough for the modern oils.

Having said this some members of this list do use semi synthetic in their
TRs and report no side effects, except their pocket.
