Technically, I think you are right Bob. But the two that I have seen were
later ones (early ones had the same thickness the full width of the handle
compared to thicker toward the middle) dipped in that material you can make
plastic handles for screw drivers, etc. Much longer lasting than paint on
chrome... Not original - but...
