OK I'll take a guess at this....and it's only a guess.
My impression was that acme threads were for situations where you wanted to
be able to put a lot of torque on a bolt without too much worry about
stripping the threads, e.g. pulling a wing tightly to the tub, inner
fenders, etc.. where everything is not necessarily perfectly straight.
Another example is a hub puller (Churchill tool) where threads have to
handle a lot of torque. Most have acme threads or at least they should.
