That would be what we call Running in oil, it should be used for the first
1000 miles (or thereabouts) whilst the surfaces of the engine are bedding
in, "ordinary" engine oils are far from ordinary, they have viscosity
improvers and detergents plus some other things in them. It is said that if
you use ordinary oil during the running in period the engine components,
particularly the bores will glaze rather than bedding in properly.
Conversely, the running in oil is not really suited to longer periods of
use, higher rpms and temperatures, as without the additives the molecule
chains are broken down more easily, thus the oil loses its ability to
provide the protection for the bearings etc.
