>There are literally hundreds of standard bronzes, and countless more
special
alloys. I don't know exactly which one is used for the valve guides, so
I'm
not certain of the comparative specifications. But, almost everywhere you
find a bronze bushing, it's really sintered bronze, where the sintering
creates pores that are filled with oil. Thus the instructions (for
example)
to soak TR2/3/4 starter bushings in oil for 24 hours before installing
them.
Modern Oilite is 18% mineral oil.

These bushings are typically used in an application where that is all the
lub it will ever get. In valve guide duty it will get a bit of lubrication
from the oil that leaks past the valve stem seal (if so equipped).
Speaking of soaking, I wonder if the process can be speeded up by immersing
the bushing in a dish of oil placed in a vacuum chamber. Drawing a vacuum
will draw out all the air and when the air pressure returned it will force
oil into the pores. This could speed up the 24 hour soak to a 5 minute
process.
