accept my apologies if these questions get on the list twice. i seem to
be having email problems.
1. my machinist says i had the wrong oil drain bolt on my engine. he
says it should not be a tapered bolt. correct ? he says i should get a
5/8 x 18 x 3/4 bolt with a fiber washer. is that correct ?
2. he said that the fan pulley should have something to locate it on the
crank pulley. that there is nothing to center it and that the 4 bolts
that are used to hold it on could bend and break. correct ? he
recommends grinding it down .005 to make it center and hold on the crank
pulley. sound good ?
3. he asked what prevents the oil from coming up out of the three stud
holes on the top of the valve cover. i said i thought the red fiber
washers on the top outside of the valve cover. he questioned whether
there is supposed to be some kind of seal on the inside of the valve
cover also. good question.
4. what 'seats' the valve cover to the three studs ? are there supposed
to be nuts on those three studs and the valve cover 'sits' on the nuts ?
are there fiber washers on these 'theoretical' nuts on the studs that
create a 'seat' and 'seal on the inside of the valve cover. thus this
provides that the valve cover does not 'bend' when bolted onto the
engine.
5. the brass bushing that goes in the crankshaft (for the transmission)
and is held in place by the flywheel. is is supposed to go into the
crankshaft 'loosely'. my existing (old) brass bushing i can slide in
and out with what seems too much ease. the machinist suggested that it
should be a tight fit that must even be tapped in with a rubber mallet.
is mine worn / undersized ? or is that normal ?
thank you to any who can advise !
