I went under my TR6 for a brief inspection over the weekend. Previously, I
had noticed a clunk from the rear end while shifting hard. All 6 u-joints
have a little bit of play in them. Also, I think I have the broken
differential mount described in about 20 different web-sites and other
writeups. I could feel the head of the stud on the right front mount popped
up about 1/2 inch. And, with the right rear wheel off, I jerked the brake
drum back and forth a few times and could see the differential moving a bit.

So, it looks like I need to install reinforcement brackets and probably
u-joints. I think I can do the u-joints myself and I want to minimize my
costs. But, I am not equipped to weld the reinforcement brackets. So, how
should I approach this? I suppose I could drop the differential and shafts,
tow the car to a welder and have him put on the brackets, tow the car back,
and install the differential with new u-joints. I have some friends who
weld, so I could try to get them to do it in my garage also. I'm guessing I
need to drain and possibly remove the gas tank too. Does installing the
reinforcements require any special TR knowledge or skills? Any other ways I
could get this done?

Thanks in advance.
