Mine was a similar problem, different cause: the movable plate (to which you
screw either point set or ignitor module) had gotten crooked - peg had jumped
out
of slot it slides in so it was high on one side - rotor was hitting electrode
on
that side. Funny thing is the car ran great like that - except for racket of
rotor hitting
electode.
Funnier thing is, since fixing this problem, in the course of changing dist
caps i have managed to break 2 rotors. (sigh)
