I've had similar situations with my 6 which were related to wear in the snap
together connection between the wiring harness and the ignition switch.
Often the problem was resolved (temporarily) by reaching behind the ignition
switch and pushing the connector together.
Yes you can jump the starter. Some of us have done it with a wrench without
intending to! Not advised, especially when you are under the car!
Not looking at the car I can't describe the details. just be careful as you
are dealing with a lot of amps there. Enough to melt the wrench mentioned
above.
Of course the easiest solution is to pull the choke, turn on the ignition,
push it to get it rolling, jump in and quickly pop it into second and
release the clutch.
It helps if you park on hills until you get around to fixing it.
