the shaft exits and enters the firewall and unfortunately I am having great
difficulty in getting the replacement bushings into the holes in the
firewall.
The replacement bushings are semi-rigid (from Moss) and although they will
bend somewhat I cannot seem to press (or beat) them into place. Has anyone
else experienced this? Any hot tips for getting these bushings pressed
into
place would be appreciated.

Boiling water for a few seconds. It also helps to have the motor out of
the way. <G>
