There is NO "leverage" or assist advantage simply because the system uses
hydraulic fluid. It could just as well be a purely mechanical system and
you would have the same system advantage. ANY "leverage" or advantage
comes from different size cylinders, but one could do EXACTLY the same
thing with levers and rods - using a hydraulic system makes things like
transferring this motion to where you want it much simpler. That is
basically it in a nutshell - any assist would be in the form of a vacuum
system or engine driven pump, but NOT simply because it's done through
hydraulics. A hydraulic system is merely another way to transfer motion
just as using levers, rods, bell cranks, gears etc. nothing more - using a
hydraulic system sometimes makes it much simpler to transfer this motion
than using a purely mechanical system but there is absolutely no mechanical
advantage, or leveraging superiority, over a purely mechanical one. As they
say, you don't get something for nothing -
