I've read that Halon does 16 times as much damage to the ozone layer as an
equivalent amount of CFC-12 (Freon). Manufacture of Halon is now prohibited
in most industrial countries by international treaty . Recycled Halon will
probably be available to aviation users for a long time but there are
'Halon substitutes' on the market.
