I would doubt the chain has broken but that the timing chain tensioner was not installed secure and the chain is wobbling around causing irregular timing, easy to check with a timing light, if the light is jumping up & down then you have found your nasty buddy, easy to correct once have have removed the entire front apron again, this punishment is just to remind you to be very careul in the future.
