I purchased a 1 gallon can of carburator cleaner from the local parts house.
You can find it in the same size paint can type of container, which fits a
carb pretty well. I had two pretty nasty carbs, and they turned out really
nice.

Let it soak for a day or so, depending on how bad it is. Mine cleaned up
real nice, and I never put alot of polish into it either.
