All,
A week or so ago, I described making a spring compressor, based on 2' of
all-thread, for installing rear springs in my TR6. There were a couple of
replies referring me to the shop manual. I appreciate the replies, and they
highlighted two glowing omissions from my earlier description:
1. I was installing uprated springs.
2. More important - no vehicular weight - I installed the springs without a
body or drivetrain. With no body weight, the springs did not conpress enough
to connect the shock linkage or insert the stub axels easily through the
trailing arm. I installed the springs as described, left the compression rig
in place on each wheel until the diff, stub axels, brakes, etc. were
installed and had added some weight. Now, the lever shock arm rests against
the rubber stop on the frame, but doesn't "squish" it, as it did when I first
began to release the tension after placing the springs in place and
connection the shock linkage.

Sorry for the confusion..........
Stan
