Not really shocking, this kind of thing is common.

Make Owned by
Jaguar.................................................Ford
Aston Martin........................................Ford The new"E type" and
Aston are the same car under the skin)
SAAB...................................................GM ~ 1990
Mitsubishi.............................................Chrysler part owner
since 70's
Isuzu....................................................GM part owner
remember the 70's Chevy Luv pickup?

Geo......................................................GM, mostly relabeled
Toyotas ( 86 Chevy Nova)

Mazda....................................................Ford part owner (
Mazda pickups are USA built Ford Rangers, Ford Probe is a Mazda MX-6 rebodied
and built in Detroit)

Rolls Royce.............................................Can't remember, but
it isn't British

Plus many others

Many companies find it cheaper and quicker to buy a established name rather
than build from the ground up. ( this is the norm in retailing as well )
