Michael, NOT cream. But I can see why a PO could call "Spa white" cream
since it is a little creamer that "New White." The wheels were
Silver/aluminum up to March '63 when Triumph began using the old "Spa White"
body color paint from the TR3's for the TR4 steel disc wheels. See Andy
Mace's note about the Service Bulletin (dated Jan 2,1963) which outlines
this. Although the bulletin is from the US distributor, it does say that the
factory had advised them that all models in the range would have Spa white
wheels. Since the factory painted the wheels then I suspect that all TR4's
had it.

>From your comm number I think that your car was manufactured after that
changeover date. If so, your wheels were probably painted "Spa White." ['63
Comm. numbers(Jan '63 through Dec '63) are CT 18605 (probable) to CT 28708.]

In '63 the TR4 white bodies were painted "New White" color code 19. (See
Piggot p.34). I surmise that they began painting the wheels in "Spa White"
because they had plenty of that around and it was more economical than silver.

However it is your car and if you like the silver then stick with it. The
whole subject of Spa White only surfaced in the last five or so years when an
original owner was docked for white wheels at a meet. This caused us to find
the service bulletin referenced above. Cheers.
