Bingo.

Maybe not.  My car had a "hollow clunk", a solid mechanical noise on bumps.
 Each rear  shock link had a bushing with a too-large hole worn into it.  The
noise was probably from the fact that the two securing bolts for the left shock
were not tight.  My advice is to replace the links if needed and to make sure
the damper-mounting bolts are tight.  It is a good idea to replace the bolts
with socket-head cap screws ("Allen" bolts) because the wrench clearance is
not what it ought be.   I put in new links, ne
