My wife, the doctor, always tells me "when you hear hoof beats
think "horses" not "zebras". My guess is you probably have a lever
shock that may have worked loose in the mount (easy fix)or a bad or
loose link.  It's happened to me a couple of times over the years. If
your's is a solid axle car there isn't much expensive stuff in the
shock linkage even if it's gone "bye-byes". If the linkage is shot,
it's a cheap fix... If the shock is kaput, then your talkin' a bit of
money... But see if you can find a replacement, locally... like from a
wrecking yard. Mine have been on the car since `62... I don't think
they die very often... and they can be rebuilt.
