You can, with a bit of ingenuity, replace it with a common plumbing tap, which, if drilled can be operated by your heater temp control pull. You just need to mount a fulcrum bracket to hold the outer cable. This type of valve will ensure a full shut-off, which in my experience, is impossible with the factory item.
