I got mine to red line in 4th (non-od) with no trouble at all a number of years
ago.
My top was down.

Something is funny causing you to be down on power.

>- -Oil pressure- once the car gets really warm, my idling oil pressure is

20 lb is lower than when the engine was new but not a problem. Forget the oil
cooler. If your pressure is
too low, you need to fix the engine.

The "proper" reading varies from car to car. Let the car idle and feel the
radiator. When
it begins to get warm, the thermostat just opened, and this as close to
"normal" temp.
Look at the gauge at that moment.

The shift point should the the point where the next higher gear will be at the
same point
in the power band (and going up) as the one you are leaving (power band
decreasing with more revs).

When pushing hard, I shift somewhere over 4000, when putt-putting around town,
I shift at the point where
I will drop down to about 2000 in the next gear.

Look at the ammeter when the car is completely shut down. It will be near (
but not AT, due to Lucas) zero.
This is where the needle should ride when the battery is fully charged and the
engine running. If you turn
onb the headlights, it is common to read a drain at idle,

>- -What is proper idle RPM?
About 800.

>- -What tire pressures do you all run at?
about 28 or 30.

>- -is it bad for the motor to decelerate by downshifting (using hte motor as a
>bit of a brake)? Some people told me it was, but i figured the "i do
>rebuilds" crowd would know this for sure.

Why do it? it is hard to replace the clutch. Brakes replace easy.

>- -What eninge oils are you all using? 10W30? Favorite brands?
20w50
