Need some help from the list. I have been driving my 73Six for over 11 years
now. Auto-x'ed it occasionally for the past 7. At the tech inspections, I
have been told twice now that my wheel bearings were too loose. They are
using the 'grab the top of the wheel and push and pull hard to check for
play' method. Even following the Haynes manual instructions for the front
bearings I have not been able to adjust them to have much less play.
Replacing the rears with rebuilt units (from TRF)did not improve how tight
the rears are(before installation the rebuilt units were impossible to turn
by hand, after 200 miles they had as much endplay as the old units).
Question is, does anyone have the same problem? How much play should I feel
when grabbing the top of the wheel?(I know this is not really the proper
method for checking bearing adjustment)
Thanks
The Oppositelocksmith
