Thank you for all the quick responses.  I am leaning towards changing the 
pulley on the Fiesta alternator. I am the proud owner of two non-working Lucas 
alternators so I have a choice of pulleys. Is this the safest way to go for 
someone "extremely" mechanicaly challenged?

PS If this builds the hands-on confidence, who knows maybe I will even change 
my own oil
